How Long to Air Fry Sausages: Pork, Chipolatas and Frozen Links

Yes, you can cook sausages in an air fryer without added oil. Moderate heat gives the centre time to cook safely while the outside browns, making 180°C the most reliable setting for fresh pork sausages, chipolatas, and frozen links.

Instructions

How Long to Air Fry Sausages: Pork, Chipolatas and Frozen Links after step 2: Arrange the sausages in a single layer with space between each link. Do not stack; cook in batches if the basket is crowded.
After step 2
  1. Preheat the air fryer to 180°C for 3 minutes. If your air fryer does not require preheating, add 1–2 minutes to the early doneness check.

  2. Arrange the sausages in a single layer with space between each link. Do not stack; cook in batches if the basket is crowded.

  3. Air fry standard fresh pork sausages for 11–15 minutes, turning with tongs halfway through. For more even browning, turn again during the last 3–4 minutes.

  4. Check doneness with an instant-read thermometer inserted from the side into the centre of a sausage. Pork sausages made with ground meat must reach 71°C/160°F internally.

  5. If the sausages are browned but not hot enough inside, return them to the air fryer for 2–3 minutes, then check again. Rest for 2 minutes before serving.

Tips & tricks

  • Timing chart at 180°C: chipolatas or thin pork sausages, 8–11 minutes; standard pork sausages, 11–15 minutes; thick butcher’s sausages, 15–18 minutes; frozen pork sausages, 15–20 minutes.
  • For frozen sausages, cook 6 minutes first, separate any links that were stuck together, then continue cooking and turn halfway through the remaining time.
  • Chicken or turkey sausages must reach 74°C/165°F internally, even if they look browned outside.
  • For vegetarian sausages, follow the package temperature if given; many cook in 8–12 minutes at 180°C, but brands vary widely.
  • Use 200°C only when you want faster browning: check chipolatas at 7 minutes and standard sausages at 9 minutes, as the outside can darken before the middle is done.
