Air Fryer Frozen Meatballs: How Long for 1-Inch and 2-Inch Meatballs

This air fryer frozen meatballs guide gives practical no-thaw timing by size, with separate instructions for fully cooked frozen meatballs and raw frozen meatballs. Use 190°C for most 1-inch meatballs, drop slightly for large 2-inch meatballs, and always confirm doneness with an internal-temperature check.

Ingredients

Instructions

Air fryer:190°C / 374°F

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 190°C for 3 minutes. If your model does not require preheating, add 1–2 minutes to the cook time as needed.

  2. Place frozen meatballs in a single layer in the basket. Do not thaw. Leave a little space between them so hot air can circulate; cook in batches if needed.

  3. For fully cooked mini or 1-inch meatballs, air fry at 190°C for 7–9 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through.

  4. For fully cooked standard 1–1½-inch meatballs, air fry at 190°C for 9–12 minutes, shaking halfway through.

  5. For fully cooked large 2-inch meatballs, reduce to 180°C and air fry for 12–15 minutes, turning or shaking halfway through so the outside does not over-brown before the center is hot.

  6. For raw frozen beef or pork meatballs, air fry at 190°C for 12–16 minutes, turning halfway through, until the center reaches at least 71°C. Add 2–4 minutes for very dense or oversized meatballs.

  7. For raw frozen chicken or turkey meatballs, air fry at 190°C for 12–16 minutes, turning halfway through, until the center reaches at least 74°C.

  8. For fully cooked frozen meatballs, check the package directions when available. If no reheating temperature is listed, heat the center to 74°C for a conservative leftovers-style target.

  9. Warm sauce separately or toss the hot meatballs with sauce after air frying. Serve with spaghetti, in sub rolls, over rice, or as appetizers.

Tips & tricks

  • A meat thermometer is the best way to tell when frozen meatballs are ready; browning alone does not prove the center is hot.
  • Trader Joe’s, Costco, and other store-brand frozen meatballs vary in size, so start with the timing range that matches the diameter rather than the brand.
  • Avoid stacking meatballs. Crowding traps moisture and can leave cold centers.
  • For saucy meatballs, air fry first for better texture, then toss with warm sauce just before serving.
  • If the outside browns too fast on large meatballs, lower the temperature to 175–180°C and continue cooking until the center reaches the safe temperature.
