Air Fryer Frozen Burgers: How Long for ¼-lb and ⅓-lb Patties

These no-thaw air fryer frozen beef burgers are built for busy nights when the patties are still rock solid. The key is to cook in a single layer, flip once the surface has thawed enough to season, and use a thermometer rather than color to confirm the safe center temperature.

After step 2
  1. Preheat the air fryer to 190°C for 3 minutes. Place the frozen beef patties in a single layer in the basket or on the tray, leaving space between them. Do not stack.

  2. Season the top side with salt, pepper, and garlic powder. If the patties are stuck together, run the sealed pack briefly under cool water just until you can separate them, then cook immediately.

  3. Air fry ¼-lb patties for 4–5 minutes, then flip. Season the second side and cook for another 4–7 minutes, checking early if the patties are thin.

  4. For ⅓-lb patties or thicker patties, air fry for 6–7 minutes, flip, season the second side, then cook for another 6–8 minutes.

  5. Check doneness with an instant-read thermometer inserted through the side into the thickest center of each patty. Ground beef burgers must reach 71°C/160°F internally.

  6. If adding cheese, place a slice on each fully cooked burger. Turn the air fryer off and close it for 1 minute, or air fry at 160°C for 30–60 seconds, just until melted.

  7. Rest the burgers for 2 minutes, then serve in buns with toppings, or serve without buns for a low-carb plate.

Tips & tricks

  • Timing depends on patty thickness, fat level, and air-fryer model. Start checking ¼-lb patties at 8 minutes and ⅓-lb patties at 12 minutes.
  • Cook straight from frozen; do not thaw first unless the package specifically instructs you to.
  • For less smoke, avoid overcrowding, empty excess grease carefully between batches, and use your air fryer’s basket or tray exactly as the manual directs.
  • If cooking in batches, the second batch may cook 1–2 minutes faster because the air fryer is fully heated.
  • For frozen turkey or chicken burgers, cook to 74°C/165°F internally instead of the beef temperature.
