Preheat the air fryer to 204°C/400°F for 3 minutes if your model recommends preheating. For non-preheat models, add 1–2 minutes to the cook time if needed.
Add the frozen tater tots directly to the basket. Keep them in a single layer for the crispiest result; a 454 g bag may need 2 batches in a small basket.
Air fry at 204°C/400°F for 10 minutes, shaking the basket well at 5 minutes.
Check crispness. For lightly crisp tots, stop at 10–12 minutes. For deeper golden, extra-crisp tots, cook 2–5 minutes more, shaking again near the end.
Transfer to a plate, season lightly with salt if desired, and let stand 1 minute before eating; the potato filling will be very hot.
