Instructions

Air Fryer Honey Garlic Shrimp Rice Bowls after step 2: Toss the shrimp with the neutral oil, salt, and black pepper. Arrange in a single layer in the basket; cook in batches if needed so the shrimp are not piled up.
After step 2
  1. Preheat the air fryer to 200°C for 3 minutes. Pat the shrimp very dry with kitchen paper so they roast instead of steam.

  2. Toss the shrimp with the neutral oil, salt, and black pepper. Arrange in a single layer in the basket; cook in batches if needed so the shrimp are not piled up.

  3. Air fry for 4–6 minutes, shaking the basket halfway, until the shrimp are pink, pearly, opaque, and reach 63°C/145°F internally. Start checking at 4 minutes to avoid overcooking.

  4. While the shrimp cooks, combine the soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, cornflour slurry, and optional chilli-garlic sauce in a small saucepan.

  5. Simmer the sauce over medium heat for 2–3 minutes, stirring often, until glossy and just thick enough to coat a spoon. If it gets too thick, loosen with a splash of water.

  6. Transfer the hot cooked shrimp to a bowl and toss with the honey garlic sauce until evenly coated.

  7. Divide the rice between 4 bowls. Top with the glazed shrimp, cucumber, carrot, edamame, spring onions, sesame seeds, and lime wedges.

  8. Serve immediately while the shrimp is juicy and the glaze is shiny.

Tips & tricks

  • Use large shrimp, about 21/25 count, for the best balance of fast cooking and juicy texture.
  • Do not add the honey sauce before air frying; the sugars can scorch at 200°C.
  • For meal prep, keep the shrimp, rice, vegetables, and sauce separate, then reheat gently and toss just before serving.
  • If your air fryer runs hot, check the shrimp at 4 minutes; they turn rubbery quickly once overcooked.
