Air Fryer Frozen Chicken Breast: How Long for 6–8 oz Pieces
Air fryer frozen chicken breast takes about 18–24 minutes for individually frozen 6–8 oz boneless, skinless pieces, depending on thickness. Cook from frozen with no breading, flip,

Can you cook frozen chicken breast in an air fryer? Yes—if the breasts are individually frozen, boneless, skinless, and cooked in a single layer. This no-breading method is designed for the common 6–8 oz size range: start checking early, then let a thermometer decide. Poultry must reach 74°C / 165°F in the thickest part before serving.
Ingredients
Instructions
Air fryer:190°C / 374°F
Preheat the air fryer to 190°C for 3 minutes. If your air fryer does not require preheating, add 1–2 minutes to the first doneness check.
Place the frozen chicken breasts in a single layer in the basket with space around each piece. Do not stack or cook a frozen clump.
Air fry for 6 minutes to thaw the surface slightly. Brush or rub both sides with the oil, then sprinkle evenly with salt, garlic powder, smoked paprika, and black pepper.
Continue air frying at 190°C, flipping halfway through the remaining time. Start checking 170 g / 6 oz breasts at 18 minutes total and 225 g / 8 oz breasts at 20 minutes total.
Check the thickest part with an instant-read thermometer. The chicken is done only when it reaches at least 74°C / 165°F internally. If it is not there yet, cook 2–3 minutes more and check again.
Rest the chicken on a clean plate for 5 minutes before slicing. If you slice and find a very thick section underdone, return that section to the air fryer for 1–3 minutes, then recheck to 74°C / 165°F.
Tips & tricks
- For 6 oz frozen chicken breast, plan on about 18–20 minutes at 190°C, but thickness matters more than weight.
- For 8 oz frozen chicken breast, plan on about 20–24 minutes at 190°C. Very thick pieces may need longer.
- For 4–5 oz pieces, start checking at 16–18 minutes. For 9–10 oz thick pieces, lower to 180–190°C and start checking around 24 minutes.
- Use this method for boneless, skinless chicken breasts only; frozen bone-in pieces need different timing and can cook unevenly.
- Seasoning sticks better after the first few minutes, once the icy surface has thawed. For a simpler method, oil and season at the start, then touch up any bare spots after flipping.
